Places to see ...
... close to home

A cruise right round Iona, exploring the coastline intimately, visiting rugged Atlantic cliffs, caves and nesting sites. You will see Columba's landing place, the old deserted Marble quarry and other signs of Iona's previous inhabitant's lives. Negotiating some narrow passages between satellite islets you will also see the wide open white sands of the island's northern beaches. (This trip requires 'quiet' conditions on the West side of the island and would be done under power to achieve a time inside 2 hrs.)

A visit to the island of Erraid and the sheltered 'Barrachain'. Here you are likely to make close acquaintance of the common seals who love to laze around the protected shore. Usually you will also visit Balfour's bay, scene of the earlier adventures from the story of 'Kidnapped' penned by Robert L. Stevenson. Erraid was the base for the engineers( including the Stevenson family) and crews for the Northern Lighthouse Board in the days of building great rock light stations out on the reefs in the open sea.

A journey along the north coast of the Ross of Mull. Along the way we pass the old Granite workings scattered round the anchorage of 'Bull Hole', the picturesque settlement of Kintra, and then turn East where views open out, of Loch Scridain and the cliffs of Burg. We travel on to Traighmaraidh (one of the Queen's favourite beaches) via the cave of the rock doves, until we reach the converted quarrymen's houses that now house an adventure centre at Camas. On the way home you should have fine views to the islands to the Northwest often seeing as far as the isles of Rum and Skye.

Longer Excursions

Allow Freya's range to be increased to visit further afield.

- Visit the Basalt caves and columns of the Ardtun peninsula

- See the majestic cliffs of the Burg

- Be surprised by the islet of Soa, with seals and sea birds, restless tidal sound and a sheltered natural inlet

- Discover the Island of the Dove (Eilean a'Chalmain)with seals, narrow straits and signs of old cultivation.

Full day trips

On full day trips the extra time allows lazy exploration in great detail in the immediate area.
Alternatively, in settled weather, Freya can venture out:

- to the kingdom of puffins, the Treshnish Isles, where seabirds nest in the early summer in unbelievable concentration and variety.

- to the south coasts of Ulva and Gometra, where basalt terraced shores alternate with sandy bays and natural harbours.

... things to do

Beach picnic trips

Freya can take you on a trip to one of the local bays or white sandy beaches. This makes idyllic picnics possible in the most stunning locations.
Fancy a picnic on Eilean Annraidh or Balfours Bay or Lunch with the seals at Eilean a'Chalmain?
(Don't forget food hamper, ball and towel!!)

Fishing

Many people have caught their first fish aboard Freya. Outside the sound of Iona there is always a chance you can hook a saithe, pollock or a mackerel in season.
Fishing on Freya is a low key activity and basic handlines are carried aboard.
Catch your dinner and cook it up when you get home!!

Sailing

If boats can smile then sailing is what brings a smile to Freya and her skipper.
With her tan sails to drive her, Freya makes a beautiful sight and her progress is blissfully quiet, unobtrusive and steeped in tradition.
If conditions are suitable, then Mark will usually encourage passengers to try their hand 'at the helm'. Her forgiving handling means that budding skippers from as young as 4 (and as old as the time) have managed this without difficulty.

Combo-trips

Using a boat can open up some new possibilities for walking: Sail one way, walk the other. Or combine with a vehicle to make a varied roundtrip.
What about

- walking from Fionnphort/Mull via Knockvologan to the ruined villages of Tir Fhearagain the white sands of Traigh Gheal and sailing back via the South coast of the Ross of Mull and Erraid.

- hiking across the peat moors to Camas Tuath to explore the old granite quarry and pier where the stone was shipped out by sea. Return via Market Bay, Pigeons cave and Bull Hole aboard Freya.

Single trips (i.e. one way to or from a specific destination) may be charged for the boats return passage.

Out of hours ferry service between Ross of Mull and Iona

Freya can provide transport across the sound of Iona, handy for late arrivals or a big day out on Mull.
People have also been known to eat out on Mull or Iona and then return by boat.
